Job Description

Security Guard - On Call, Full Time
Our on-call Security Guards are essential first responders for short-notice or short-term coverages at sites throughout the Lower Mainland. In this role, you will gain amazing and varied experience at sites like post-secondary universities, shopping malls, officer towers, government buildings, industrial facilities, events, and more!

We are looking for motivated candidates who can work full-time (40 hours per week, with the possibility of overtime shifts too) for a minimum of 6-months. Most shifts will be in the afternoons (ex. 3pm-11pm) or overnight (ex. 11pm-7am), and can be any day of the week. Many of our sites are transit accessible, but it will be considered an asset if you have your own vehicle that you can use to commute to and from work. Your pay rate will be $18 - $21/hour, depending on the site.
Responsibilities at each site will vary, but will generally include:
  • Controlling access to the facility
  • Regular foot patrols
  • Monitoring CCTV cameras
  • Providing first aid
  • Providing excellent customer service
  • Writing detailed incident reports
  • De-escalating potentially violent situations
  • Responding to alarms and emergency requests
  • Managing lost and found
  • Communicating with colleagues, clients, emergency responders, and the general public
  • Reporting unusual activity, property damage, security breaches, etc. to our Operations Centre and emergency services

You'll be a great fit if you have:
  • Excellent customer service and problem-solving skills
  • Strong English communication skills, both verbal and written
  • A passion for being active, since your patrols may be indoors or outdoors, in all weather conditions, and can include stairwells, uneven surfaces, and parkades
  • Physical ability to stand and/or patrol for the majority of a shift (8-hours average)
  • Confidence interacting verbally with team members, client personnel, members of the public, and emergency services
  • Some experience in security would be an asset, but other experience in customer service or volunteering can still help you succeed!
  • Confidence approaching and leading in emergency situations, including trauma, aggression, intoxication, bodily fluids, etc.
  • A keen eye for watching and reporting irregularities, such as security breaches, facility and safety hazards, and emergency situations
  • Basic skills in utilizing technology, including writing reports on a computer, tracking patrols in a smartphone, and communicating via two-way radio
