BC Place is hiring for a part-time Supervisor, Safety & Security. The Supervisor, Safety & Security plays a key role in the success of security and facility operations at BC Place.
Reporting to the Senior Manager, Safety & Security, this on-the-ground position coordinates the activities and proactively leads the performance of the event and building security teams while addressing clients, guests, and facility safety and security matters. The Supervisor, Safety & Security will also provide behind-the-scene administrative support in scheduling, ensuring staffing needs are met and staff are effectively scheduled for all events.
WHAT YOU WILL DO:
- Oversee all building and event security matters while on duty to ensure the safety of guests, employees, the public, and physical property;
- Supervise the performance of the BC Place Security Team and Security Contractors; provide coaching and direction as appropriate and provide input into performance metrics including recognition rewards;
- Contribute to policy and procedure development and implementation thereof;
- Coordinate deployment plans and redeployment of staff;
- Recommend appropriate security staffing levels and scheduling;
- Conduct site inspections, monitor adherence to facility policies and procedures, and address operational issues;
- Actively participate in department meetings, business planning, post-event debriefings, industry activities, and special projects;
- Ensure completion of all documentation by security staff including daily reports, incident reports, eviction cards, etc.;
- Participate and assist in recruitment, orientation, and training of new staff;
- Ensure compliance with WorkSafe BC regulations by BCP staff and, when applicable, ensure staff are wearing correct Personal Protective Equipment;
- Complete Incident Reports, ensure staff complete Incident, First Aid, and/or Witness reports, and ensure reports are distributed as required;
- Provide and be a role model for service excellence and service recovery. Ensure client, guest, staff, and facility concerns are dealt with professionally, appropriately, and responsively;
- Develop and implement policies and procedures;
- Other duties as required.
WHAT YOU WILL BRING:
- Completion of a post-secondary certificate or diploma, preferably in Law Enforcement or Security;
- Valid BC Security Worker License (minimum Security Guard qualification);
- 3 – 5 years experience in a similar role in the event, entertainment, or service industry;
- Knowledge of a wide variety of standard software applications and internet communications;
- Experience using ABI, Momentus (previously known as EBMS/Ungerboeck) and Dayforce, or a similar scheduling program an asset;
- Experience supervising, coaching, and providing feedback to staff;
- Demonstrated ability in providing service excellence to guests, team members, and the general public;
- Ability to adapt to changing demands and deadlines by internal and external stakeholders;
- Ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects at one time;
- Ability to deal with difficult situations with large crowds;
- Demonstrated ability to work in a dynamic team environment;
- Strong organizational skills and ability to work independently;
- High level of analytical and interpersonal skills, including strong written and verbal communication;
- Mentally and physically fit to deal with exposure to seasonal heat and cold temperatures in an indoor and outdoor environment;
- Ability to withstand extended periods of standing and at times extensive walking from one location to another on concrete surfaces;
- Available to work a flexible schedule with varied hours including afternoons, evenings, and weekends.
