What you’ll do
This Security Systems Technical Advisor position is responsible for security systems related matters and provides subject
matter expertise with regards to security systems end user elements and operations including, but not limited to, security
system planning and operations, installation & implementation, oversight of quotation for cost avoidance opportunities,
system commissioning, and overall effective coordination for Service and Maintenance.
This will be a role with accountabilities primarily focused on the BC Hydro enterprise system (Lenel OnGuard) and the
related end user elements and operations, including software and hardware required to ensure the systems function as
designed. Secondarily this role has focus on the end user elements and operations of other security systems currently in
use.
Summary of the Role:
Candidates should demonstrate effective collaboration abilities with BC Hydro Corporate Security to draw on and utilize the
subject matter expertise of the field operations personnel as well as the full security team and to deliver various security
program elements.
This Security Systems Advisor role is critical to the success of BC Hydro’s Corporate Security enterprise system. The
desired candidate will possess technical training, experience, and demonstrated proficiency in the areas of security systems
hardware and software function and installation, enterprise security solutions and the ability to oversee security vendors
while they design, quote, implement, commission, operate and provide service and maintenance for various products to
meet BC Hydro Corporate Security requirements and standards. The candidate will require in-depth experience with access
control, video surveillance, and intrusion detection systems which will allow the advisor to deal with complex enterprise
security system issues and tasks ranging from planning, implementation, commissioning, and sustainment of the system
and all of its end user elements and operations technical pieces.
Specific Duties and Responsibilities:
Occupying the Security Systems Advisor role, you will report to the Corporate Security Manager – Security Operations in
coordination with the Corporate Security team. Your overall goal is to closely monitor the security vendors and provide them
the direction and oversight as they receive assigned work, quote cost estimates, implement the equipment or repairs,
ensure the work is commissioned correctly, and provide strict cost oversight to billing and close out documents at the
conclusion of each work order or project.
You will also be required to work with Corporate Security Project Planners, and vendors to identify effective and appropriate
security solutions using the BC Hydro security application guide combined with your career experience for security related
matters on capital projects for BC Hydro. Your unique expertise in this field will be drawn upon to ensure the solutions
identified are implemented while ensuring financial responsibility for the work and system. This role will also contribute to
the cost-effective management of security service and maintenance contracts associated with Corporate Security systems.
Critical to the achievement of this goal is ensuring that the security protocols and processes adhere to BC Hydro’s security
policy, objectives, standards and work practices.
